Everyone in Texas still needs to get their cars inspected for now.  The bill eliminating the requirement to get your car inspected statewide does not take effect until January 1, 2025.  You still must get your car inspected in 2023 and 2024.  

Once the goes into effect, most of the state will no longer need to get their cars inspected.  However, if you live in one of the following 17 counties, you will still need to get your car inspected every year.

Collin County

Dallas County

Denton County

Ellis County

Johnson County

Kaufman County

Parker County

Rockwall County

Tarrant County

Austin Area

Travis County

Williamson County

Houston Area

Brazoria County

Fort Bend County

Galveston County

Harris County

Montgomery County

El Paso

El Paso County
